Welcome to the Vault: Why This Place Exists

Welcome to The Akiba Vault.
This isn’t just a shop — it’s a place made for people who love anime, games, and collecting to feel safe, comfortable, and at home.
The image above is my best friend Chris (right) and me at the Nintendo Store in Kyoto. Our trips to Japan usually consist of eating incredible food and spending way too much money on crane games — and if you’ve ever stepped foot inside a GiGO, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Those days wandering Akihabara for the best finds, followed by late nights gaming at the arcades, are exactly why Akiba became my favorite part of Tokyo.
The Akiba Vault was created to be everyone’s third place — a cozy corner of the internet where fans can enjoy their hobbies, share what they love, and feel part of a community. Whether you’re here to shop our finds from Tokyo, read my ongoing blog posts about why Tokyo Ghoul desperately needs the “Brotherhood” treatment, or share your Weekly Favorites with us — this is your place.
I love collecting. Video games, figures, gacha keychains… basically anything Emma gets mad at me for keeping in the house (I know, I’m sorry). We want the Vault to be different — not just another shop selling the next hottest product. Our goal is to bring you things you won’t find tossed in a bin at GameStop (no offense).
Our Tokyo Drops are hand‑picked and sometimes include things like town mascots and local finds you might have missed while traveling. (For anyone who cares — my favorite town in Japan is Takayama. I own way too many of their keychains and magnets.) We’ll do our best to offer both new and nostalgic items — because if you’re anything like me, you know how hard it is to find Black Lagoon merch at the mall.
If you made it all the way to the end — thank you.
Whether you’re here to shop, share your favorite character, or just look around…
This is your place.
